As we enter 2021, which looks set to be another year of uncertainty, we would like to thank all our customers and partners for their support during these unprecedented market conditions.
MSC R&D’s success is based on the relationships we have built over the years, and we wouldn’t be one of the leading quality R&D Tax Credit advisors without you.
Like most of you, we had to adapt our way of working in 2020, but this has not deflected us from our path of continuous improvement and we have maintained our investment in quality, IT and organisational initiatives designed to improve further our support for you.
From teams to Teams!
The most obvious example of this has been the almost ‘seamless’ move to ‘home working’ by our analysts and the roll-out of remote Blitz Day ® working - thanks in no small part to your support, and well received based on your feedback, with some clients actually preferring it!
HMRC has also helped through extra staffing support resulting in all backlog being erased, and since March virtually all R&D claims have been processed within the HMRC 28 day service level agreement – a huge relief for many cash-strapped companies.
People make the difference
We have continued to strengthen our team, with Deborah Chapple, our highly experienced UK Tax Manager, who arrived at the end of 2019, being recently joined by Tom Watson as a R&D Tax Lead Analyst from Deloittes.
On the HMRC compliance front we engage with two ex-HMRC experts to help us on a strategic and tactical level. Gavin Bate (who wrote the CIRD legislation during his time at HMRC and who is still consulting for HMRC on it) helps with our ISO approach, leads our 6 monthly CPD training, and is our go-to resource for advising us on complex cases from the sales stage through to submission and enquiry if needed. He ensures that at all stages we are the right side of the official policy and our clients are getting absolute compliance. We also have an ex-HMRC Senior R&D tax inspector who is our internal Quality Assurance officer, providing compliance checks to our claims prior to submission. Every single client claim is reviewed by him and he ensure rigorous compliance to HMRC eligibility criteria which helps MSC R&D maintain its ISO9001:2015 quality standards.
Maintaining our eye on the quality ball in 2020, as well passing our interim assessments for both ISO9001:2015 and Investors in People, we have managed to achieve 5-star European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) Recognised for Excellence status (R4E) and reach the finals of the British Quality Foundation’s (BQF) UK Excellence Awards (SME category).
What is all the more satisfying is that we had to undergo our R4E assessment remotely via Teams during the first week of lockdown – a new experience for everyone at that time (little did we know how things would pan out then!).
Building Back Better in 2021
At MSC R&D, we are passionate about technology and that is why our clients include some of the UK’s most innovative hi-tech companies.
Technology and innovation will be key to the nation’s recovery going forward, and we look forward to supporting you in accessing the funding necessary to deliver this innovation.
Thank you once again for your continued support.
